What brought you to Lakeside?

In 2006, through the prayer and discernment of the Bishop and Cabinet of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, God called me to lead Lakeside Fellowship UMC as the Pastor.  My family and I have been privileged to be a part of the lives of our church family members and many others in our Sanford, Lake Mary, Heathrow community for the past 8 years.  I God brought us here to gather new people to faith, grow together in the likeness of Jesus, and sow the love of Jesus through acts of service to those in need for the transformation of lives!  I also believe that our best years are ahead of us!

What do you like most about your ministry here?

I love when I can see people’s lives change in response to God’s love and grace.  I see this often in small group Bible study and prayer where we share what is going on in our lives and how we are learning to apply our faith in Jesus in our businesses, families, and acts of service.  I also love seeing how the Lakeside family clearly connects worship with serving those in need in our community.  From Grace and Grits to Mountain TOP mission trips to helping the homeless to anonymous gifts given to local people in need, loving service in the name of Jesus that changes lives is a beautiful thing to be a part of!  Those moments are when the Kingdom of God breaks into this world more fully!

What do you love to do most when you aren’t working and spending time with family?

When I’m not working at the church or enjoying my family I like running and fishing.  I was fortunate to be able to complete my first marathon in 2014, and each year I look forward to fly-fishing the North American Shad run that comes into the St. John’s River each January through March.  I also enjoy reading and just completed the second book in the series of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

Tell us about your family.

I have a beautiful, energetic, creative genius of a wife who ought to be a five star chef but spends her days helping kids find their voice as a speech therapist, an amazingly artistic daughter who plays violin in the MAYS community orchestra and draws and paints, and a wonderfully creative and athletic son who most enjoys his days on the soccer field at Orlando City Youth Soccer.

What brought you to Lakeside?

God, ultimately! In 2007 I had started an IT job in Orlando after the company I had been working for in Ft. Pierce abruptly shut its doors. During the first few months, I was commuting back and forth between home and job every weekend…which became rather tiresome. When our house wasn’t selling, I decided maybe I needed to get a part time job in order to help accelerate the process of moving our family up to Orlando. I went looking on Craigslist looking for a part time computer job, but instead I found Lakeside! God obviously had a plan – I’ve been here ever since!

What do you like most about your ministry here?

For me, it’s the ability to use my music and leadership gifts to gently urge people on to deeper relationship with Him. Whether it is through song, spoken word, or just living life together, I hope what we do connects people more closely to Jesus.

What to you love to do most when you aren’t working and spending time with family?

I’ll admit it – I love watching movies and TV! The big screen is not the only thing, though…I like getting out on the bicycle or the motorcycle, I’m a voracious reader, and I’m even known to enjoy fishing from time to time.

The going joke is my wife and I are trying to single-handedly build the children’s program here at Lakeside! I have been married to Melissa (who I met when Melissa’s college roommate was trying to match her up with her now husband – ask us about that story!) for 15 years this September, and we have 4 (soon-to-be 5) wonderful (if not boisterous) children. Reagan (10), Katie (9), Ethan (5), Noah (3), and Anna (due in September 2014).

What brought you to Lakeside?

My friend Bev Greek brought me to Lakeside.  She introduced me to Marti Pacheco – the Preschool Director.  I was hired in Nov. 2012 to teach Kindergarten Art.  In August 2013, I began teaching both Art and Music at the preschool.  When Bev took a full time position at another church, I was hired as the Interim Children’s Ministry Director.

What do you like most about your ministry here?

I enjoy developing relationships with the parents and children.  It is such a blessing to hear “Hi Mrs. Wendy” as one of the kids runs up to give you a big hug!

What do you love to do most when you aren’t working and spending time with family?

What brought you to Lakeside?

God lead me to Lakeside in the late spring of 2004. I picked up a local publication one morning and saw a posting for a lead preschool teacher. I had taught preschool a couple of years before while living in North Carolina. When we moved to Florida I decided to close that door and find something else to do. Well God was not through with me when it came to working in the preschool arena. The ad that was posted was in fact supposed to run a week later. I would have been on vacation. I called about the position, interviewed that afternoon and the next evening accepted the position as the first four year old lead teacher at Lakeside Fellowship UMC Preschool. God has filled my bucket year after year with sweet smiles, hugs and kisses of hundreds of children. There have been many challenges as well but by His grace and mercy he has seen me through. I loved my job as a teacher many years ago and love my job as the preschool director today. I am thankful that God lead me here in 2004 and thankful that He still guides me today.

What do you like most about your ministry here?

There are many things I LOVE about my ministry at Lakeside. Greeting the children and families as they arrive in the mornings and popping in the classrooms throughout the week to play in one of the centers with the students (sometimes you just need to take a break, it’s a pleasant distraction from the paperwork from time to time). I think one of the most favorite parts of my ministry is our daily chapel at the preschool. I love hearing the students worship and pray every day and they enjoy it. It’s a beautiful thing. Another moment that makes my heart smile is seeing the students running chapel. One day a week one of our preschool classes runs chapel. It’s great to see the parents stay and watch their children perform a Bible story. Any time we can help a family with meals, prayers or just listening when they need someone to talk to reminds me that I am here to help do His work. I love to serve.

What do you love to do most when you aren’t working and spending time with family?

I love being outside, I enjoy listening to the birds and working in my yard. My husband and I have been updating the inside of our house so for the past year I have enjoyed channeling the decorator in me. I’ve picked out granite, fixtures, paint, window coverings you name we’ve done it. Working in the yard or on the house is hard work and its great therapy. I like to cook when I have time and invite people over for a meal. I also spend time volunteering at Bridgeview Center skilled nursing home in Ormond Beach where my mom lives. I love reading, singing or holding hands and talking with some of the residents there including my mom, the sunshine of my life.

Tell us about your family.

I have been happily married since 1979. My husband is my best friend, he always knows how to make me smile. He is kind and loving and to me the best husband and father in the world. He is the executive marketing director for a children’s book company in Lake Mary. We have one child a son that amazes us to this day. He graduated from UCF in 2012 and has a beautiful wife. We enjoy spending time with them and traveling with them. When we are not working we are training for a half marathon or marathon. My husband and son got involved a few years ago in running and I was more than happy to be their #1 fan and their main support groupie. In 2010 they coaxed me into running a half marathon which was amazing. In January 2013 my son and I did the Disney Marathon shoulder to shoulder. That was one of my best and one of the most physically hardest days in my life. I am happy to be their #1 fan again. One thing I found out is I am not a huge fan of running! I prefer walking but at my pace! I love God and my family so every chance I get to spend with them is a blessing.

What brought you to Lakeside?

Our family used to vacation in Florida. We loved the climate, all the tropical plants, and of course the ocean. We decided that Florida would be a better fit for us then Arkansas. God brought the right job for us here in Sanford and we were able to sell our home quickly and move here! As soon as we got settled in we started looking for a church home. We fell in love with Lakeside. We loved that it had a variety of age groups that attended the church. The congregation was so loving and kind, you could feel the love of God in the church.

What do you like most about your ministry here?

I love getting to interacting with people and seeing the preschoolers excited about the things of God.
I love that its fast pace and every day is a new adventure.

What do you love to do most when you aren’t working and spending time with family?

I have a passion for organizing. My favorite things to organize are pantries, play rooms, attics, and just about anything. There is something wonderful when you open the door and everything you see is all lined up, labeled, and easy to find. I feel that it makes life less stressful. I also enjoy going to the beach! My favorite location so far is Wilbur By The Sea. Its quiet and not very crowed and the sand is ultra soft on your feet.

I met my husband Ted, at a ball room dance class. I was learning how to waltz, do the fox trot and the rumba.
He literally swept me off of my feet. We have been married 13 years. He is the best cook I have ever known. He is my go to guy for almost everything I want to build or create. I love that I can tell him an idea that I want to do and he knows how we can build or make it in a cost effective way. We have three smart and handsome boys. Ted our oldest is in sixth grade, Jacob is in 1st grade, and Clark is in preschool.

What brought you to Lakeside?

Although this is a new position for me, I’m not new to Lakeside.  I started at Lakeside in 2007 when I enrolled my 2 daughters, Genevieve (14) and Caroline (12).  My son, Liam (10), also had the privilege to attend as well.  I was brought on as a staff member early on and have worked all ages, including art.  Although my children have moved on to Elementary and Middle schools, when you sign up with Lakeside, there’s a part of you that always remains with the Lakeside family.  After dusting off my accounting degree, I have recently came back and have taken on the bookkeeping position at Lakeside.  I also run a non-profit organization, T.E.A.R.S., that I started in 2010.

What do you love to do most when you aren’t working and spending time with family?

In my “free time” I love reading and will almost always have my Kindle on me to take advantage of a spare 15 minutes.

Tell us about your family.

My best friend and husband, Patrick, and I have been married 14 years and we have 3 children, Genevieve, Caroline and Liam.
